How we check

A short, honest description of what is behind each entry.

What we verify

• License. Read from the project's own repository. We separate open source, source-available and mixed licenses.
• Activity. Last code update and star count from the repository, with the check date.
• The paid tool's price. An approximate US list price for an individual plan, from third-party price trackers. We mark it as approximate and show the check date. If we could not verify a price, we say so and leave it out of your savings total.

What we do not claim

• We do not claim a free tool is as good as the paid one. Every entry has a "catch".
• We mark a tool as tested only after we ran it ourselves. Today, none of the entries is hands-on tested yet.
• Prices change by region, plan and promotion. Treat the savings counter as a rough guide, not a quote.
